Painterly/Artistic Vita

Born in November 1957 in Heidelberg,

I grew up on the Dilsberg and in Neckargemünd, and have been living in Karlsruhe for many years now.

First decisive contact with art, culture and literature between the ages of 14 and 19, among other things through personal contact with the painter and philosopher H. Fiesel.

Since I decided to start my own family very early (at 19), art took a back seat for a long time. My first works were at 26: pencil and charcoal drawings, watercolors, and linocuts. Then, at 32, I decided to run a restaurant, which also "hindered" me in my art...

From 2006 onwards I began to create some works using acrylic and mixed media. Currently, I alternate between acrylic and oil painting depending on how I feel and the season.

In 2008/09 I ran the producer gallery “GruppeNove” in Neckargemünd with nine artists.

My painting style is representational/figurative in many of my works. From mid-2009 to mid-2012, my paintings were characterized by an almost monochrome style—the reduction in color selection doesn't distract, but rather directs the viewer's gaze directly to the subject matter.

These images trigger associations and trigger your own thoughts.

Since mid-2012, a new form of representation—flakes—has been gaining ground. These are often reduced to the essentials, initially reminiscent of computer animations, and then immerse the viewer more deeply in the images. Portraits and very personal situations are captured on canvas, often in a state of "dissolution."

The aim of my work is to process, understand, and reflect my life in connection with the events in my immediate environment. Love and what can arise from it are often themes.

In my paintings, I also explore my past, in which age, the process of maturation, understanding, and the juxtaposition of time are all contextualized. Since I've been professionally "retired" (since November 2023), I've found more interest and time for painting (when I'm not on vacation or enjoying myself). Above all, I've enjoyed my paintings much more since then, and I often find it very difficult to part with them.
